Sex, Drugs, and... Rock and Roll?
With Joanna Angel & the Gigolos, it's more like Sex, Sass, and
Rock and Roll. Fronted by the Punk Rock Princess herself, Joanna Angel and
her Gigolos are here to kick down the door of the party and have some fun with
a sound that pulls from the classic punk rock and pop anthems that we all grew
up with, sprinkled with the trademark "Joanna Angel" humor, a wink
and a smile. Drawing from influences such as The Sounds, Blondie, Beehive and
the Barracudas, and Sleater-Kinney, it's a whole lotta sass with a little bit
of ass.
Her partners in crime are her
Gigolos, "Small Hands" and "CL Lewis" , from legendary
pop-punkers Fenix TX, who do double duty as well.... gigolos.... of
course, when not writing and recording with Joanna.
Don't be mistaken, though, these
aren't songs and about gangbangs and HJs, Joanna is quick to point that out.
"Even though some might perceive a sexy element to the band, I
didn't want the songs to be specifically about sex", Joanna states and
adds with a laugh, "You can see and hear enough of that stuff on BurningAngel.com. These are just fun songs
that we have a good time writing and recording, having fun is the main
goal!"
Josh Grabelle (Co-Founder of Gypsy Diamond) and Joanna Angel have been
friends since the 1990s as they both came from the New Jersey punk rock scene.
Releasing new music from Joanna on his new pop label was an obvious choice, and
he commented, "Joanna is a sweetheart and I have been following all her
moves for over a decade. We are both cut from the same DIY cloth and have
similar tastes and interests and I am excited to work with her on her new
music!"
As both the star of many of
BurningAngel's movies and the company's spokesperson and owner, Joanna Angel
has stormed both mainstream and adult media. She's appeared in every major
adult magazine (Club, Hustler, Picture Magazine, Adam Film World and Xtreme, to
name a few) and has been featured in many tattoo magazines as well (some
include Prick, Taboo, Inked and Savage). She has been featured on Fox News,
Playboy TV, Fuse TV, G4 TV, KROQ Radio, as a regular on the Jason Ellis show on
SIRIUS Radio, as a guest on the 2008 series premiere of TLC¹s LA Ink, and in a
speaking role on Adult Swim's "Children's Hospital."
Angel has also appeared in The New
York Times, Newsweek, The Village Voice, The New York Press, Esquire UK,
Details and Penthouse, among others. Heeb Magazine featured Joanna as its cover
girl, naming her one of the Top 100 Up-and-Coming Jews in 2005, and The New
York Post featured her as one of the Top 25 Sexiest New Yorkers in 2006.
BurningAngel has brought home
several awards from all the major adult shows, from AVN to XBIZ; from XRCO to
YNOT. Some of its accolades include Best Adult Star Website, Best Web Premiere
and Best Sex Comedy. From a college dorm room to national television,
BurningAngel has made a mark in entertainment, and it's only just beginning.
Gypsy Diamond was created in 2012 by
long time friends Josh Grabelle and Jay Reason. Born and raised in the Rock
world but keeping their pulse on the Pop scene, Gypsy Diamond is an outlet for
young up and coming artists who are creating interesting and compelling music.
Distributed through Fontana/Universal, the label has already released
groundbreaking music from Una Jensen (“Shout It Loud & Clear”) and Kelsey Chaos
(“Out Of This World”) and have plans for a few more artists in 2013. The
label is hosting a national talent search called "Diamond In The
Rough" on September 28, 2013 at Webster Hall in NYC and have invited
winners from a ReverbNation contest that over 3000 artists entered. Judging the
competition will be Josh Grabelle, Chris Kirkpatrick (N*Sync), and Earl Cohen
(Producer of Lady Gaga, Usher, etc). Watch the video for the event at http://www.youtube.com/GypsyDiamondHQ
Pushing the
envelope, the BurningAngel Empire is a refreshingly unique web cocktail of sex,
rock n' roll and pop culture. BurningAngel.com launched in 2002 with a few sets
of photos and a band interview, conceived by two amateur college kids from
Rutgers, Joanna Angel and Mitch Fontaine. Since its launch, it has exploded
into a fierce indie company that has pioneered a new species of erotica known
as "alt porn," with eight separate websites and hundreds of DVDs to
its credit. The company is revered for popularizing alternative style girls,
and prides itself on delivering hardcore adult content alongside band
interviews, record reviews, and a community with its own social networking.
